As I mentioned in my previous post, I had to do a language competency test before my application for citizenship would be further processed. I just recently completed the Fide Test at a local language School. This is a Swiss language test specifically designed for acceptance by the Swiss authorities. It tests competency from level A1 to B1. The test is split into two main parts. Firstly, a one to one speaking/listening comprehension test. Secondly, later in the day a reading/writing test under exam conditions together with a few other applicants. There is a model test available on the test website, which I used to prepare for the test. Thanks to this model test I knew how the test would be structured and what to expect and I recommend having a look at it if you need to do the test.
I personally didn't find the test difficult, but that was to be expected, as I've been using German daily for many years in my private and professional lives. I should receive the result of the test within the next four weeks and I'll report back at that time.
